ENEMY ALIENS.
NEW RESTRICTIONS.
NO CARS OR CAMERAS. MANY ARTICLES PROHIBITED. Under the third amendment to-, the Alien Control Emergency Regulations, 1939, further restrictions have been imposed on enemy aliens. Unless they can prove that the new regulations will bring hardship upon them in their business, or profession, they will be prohibited from using any motor vehicle, while comprehensive restrictions have now bewi placed upon their liberty to use or have in their possession a number of specified articles. The third amendment provides that no enemy alien —one who is or at any time has been a national of a State with which His Majesty is at war—shall without written permit, from a registration officer in the district in which he resides, have in his , possession or under his control in New Zealand:—Any explosive or any material intended to be used for the manufacture of an explosive; more than three gallons of inflammable liquid; any motor vehicle within - the'. meaning of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1924, any sea-going craft, or any aircraft; any camera or other photographic apparatus; any map drawn to a fargcr scale than four miles to one inch; any nautical chart; any document intended for the use of members of any armed forces; or any document describing or depicting any ship, aircraft, vehicle, weapon, or equipment of any kind used by the armed forces of tho Crown, or any list of persons in His Majesty's service. Applications for permits to retain any of the above-mentioned articles or liquid must be made to the nearest police station, with a full explanation for their intended use. Already a number of cameras have been handed in by aliens to the sergeant in charge of the Aliens' Registration Branch at police headquarters. Receipts arc given the owners by the police, who will retain the cameras for the duration of the war.
