AUSTRALIA'S. WAR EFFORT.

A suggestion'.,that-the University of Sydney, by co-operating with, the Chamber of Manufacturers, might help to produce war equipment was made in a memorandum, from :thc vice-chancellor, Professor Wallace, which, was read by the chancellor. Sir, Percival Halse Rogers, at'a graduation ceremony at .the university last Saturday morning,' states the "Sydney Morning Herald."

The Federal Treasurer, Jlr. Spender, announced that lie intended to discuss with, the chancellor the methods 'by which the university, could best assist the war effort. "..'■'

"All connected with the university are unreservedly behind the national war effort," said Sir Percival Halse Rogers, reading the memorandum. .

, ".As camp space is short, let the university organise its own training to suit its own conditions. We have many men here who Would be. suitable as instructors. Our best plan of solving the problem is "to link with the Chamber of Manufactures and hope to help in producing the equipment of war. We have nearly 1500 students who arc too young to join the .A.I.E, and .I suggest that the - university " should • take complete charge of! its volunteers in the militia."

Several of".the-graduates'were members of the A.1.F., arid both the Navy and Air Force had a representative. An absentee graduate was Surgeon-Com-mander (D.) -A- E.. Woolcott, E.A.N., who was awarded a D.D.Sc. degree for his thesis, "A Survey of Dental Caries in the Eoyal Australian Navy."
