RACING IN ENGLAND.

TO BE ABANDONED. DECISION OF JOCKEY CLUB. (Received noon.; LONDON, June 19. The Jockey Club, after consultation with the Government, has decided to abandon all racing until further t >otice. ARCTIC STAR RESUMES. Arctic Star, who has been trained for some weeks in Southland by 'J. Thlstleton for his owner, the Kiccarton trainer C. Dawnon, lias been taken over again by Dawson. who hopes to race him at some of the coming steeplechase meetings in Canterbury. TRAINING AT FOXTON. Two former Trentham trainers, Mrs. P. M. Flan and J. Nelson, have recently transferred to Foxton. Mrs. Flan is preparing Sylvia Lass, a rising two-year-old filly whom she secured in exchange for her jumper Southern Blood. Sylvia Lass is a bay daughter of Illumination and the Sylvia mare Huirangi Girl. Nelson is training on his own behr.lf the Sporting Blood—Blue Jay filly whom he purchased at the sales and for whom he has claimed the name of Blue Lagoon. CHANCES REMOTE. Amflncr the entries for fhe Southern Queen Handicap, one mile and a quarter, and the Hamilton Handicap, six furlongs, the chief flat events at the patriotic meeting of the Waikato Racing Club, is Baroscope, who Iβ getting on in years; in fact, h<> is now rising twelve, and his chances of making a "comeback" seem fairly remote. Some years ago he won several races for Mr. E. H. Cueksey. including the MitcliW«on Cup at Ellerslie. the St. Andrew's Handicap at the spring Takapunn meeting and the Tuuiiiarunui ■ Cup. capturing the lust-mentioned event on three successive occasions. He has not raced since the Waipa meeting in 1937.

LOOKING WELL. F. D. .Tones has Disdain looking particularly well at the present time.' the Robespierre mnre being nicely conditioned and well forward in her preparation. Considered practically a hopeless case when .Ifinee took her over to train for her Clirisfcliurch owner. Mr. A. Young. Disdain has been racing much more solidly since the tracks became easier, an<l her prospects of winning a good handicap this winter look bright. Possibly some of her brilliance has disappeared, but in return it has been replaced by solidity. In her last three starts Disdain hns won the Amberley Handicap at Kicearton. a race that was little more than a sprint home, though she beat a good mare in Wild Talk ; and been third In the Elloughton and South Canterbury Handicaps at Washdyke in close and hard finishes. Both races were won by The Wrecker, who had earlier proved that when right he was capable of useful form in good company. Trench Fight and Capricious, the runners-up to The Wrecker are also well-performed horses, and it was no disgrace for Disdain to be beaten bv them. J FOR MELBOURNE CUP. Beau Vite. the Beau Pere colt that displaced Beaulivre for the position of champion three-year-old this season, Iβ being prepared for another Australian trip tn the spring, the principal mission selected for him being the Melbourne Cup. Last November Beau Vite ran a fair race in the Melbourne Cup. but he did not show his best form on the trip, and it was only at Ellerslic last Christmas that he struck winning form and held It. Beaulirre showed too muchi speed for him over the mile in the. A.R.C. King's Plate, but he had his J"f2 In the Great Northern Derby and the Clifford Plate. The only other defeat suffered by Beau Vite was in the Wellington Centennial Cup, when after making a great challenge.
