There was • very large attendance ever which Mrs. W. H. Rirkee, president, presided. ledy Davis, petronee* of the club, and Mre. W. R. "Miss Lyceum," a charming figure on . the etege, wearing a silver wig, a crinoline DMt entirely of white roses, and a sash ol .red, white and blue satin ribbon, made an appeal for Red Grose funds. At her feet was a silver basket in which' the member* placed their contributions. At supper, which was later served in an adjoining lounge, the ceremony of cutting the three-tiered birthday cake, iced with white arid eilver and decorated with flags, wae performed by Mrs. Parkes. Decorations on the small tables were red, white and blue flowers, while overhead were the Union Jack, the tricolour and the New Zealand flag. Various circles of the club provided an enjoyable programme of entertainment. Items were given by the choir; a play entitled, "The Bride" was performed by members of the play-reading circle; an original humorous debate was given by the public speaking circle; monologues by the bridge circle; and a demonstration of the work of the welfare dmie was given in the form of a mannequin parade. A member of the ai*a aad'x&afta' circle gave a demontfration Of alippar-making for refugees.
