QUEEN CARNIVAL.

VARIED FUNCTIONS. NIGHT IN MAORILAND. "A Night In Maoriland" ball was heJd in the Town Hall last night to raise funds for the Miiori Queen, Ramai Te Milia. A realistic atmosphere was obtained with toi toi, palms and punga ferns in the hall and the supper room, and the queen's colours of lemon, white and black were displayed In festooned streamers. The organiser, Mrs. Gordon Wilkins, received the guests, and introduced Ramai Te Miha, who wore a Grecian frock of white chiffon, with two green New Zealand ferns in her hair, her only ornament being a greenstone tiki. Guests of honour for the evening were Princess Te Puea Herangi, Prince John of Tonga, and Miss Rita Ryan and Mise KronfeMt, representing the Samoans, who have been helping in the campaign for the Maori queen. Poi dances and hakas by a Maori party, and a Samoan siva and knife-dance, presented by nine Samoan girls, formed the entertainment, the singing of the song of the Maori Battalion also proving popular. Another feature of the evening was tdie drawing of some of the art unions which have been a part of the ca.mpaign.
