HEAVY CABBAGE SUPPLY.
CAULIFLQWER RATES HIGHER. GOOD SALE FOR PARSNIPS. Cabbage was in heavy supply at the city markets to-day, and prices were low. Cauliflower, ou the other hand, realised better values. Good supplies of carrots and parsnips met with satisfactory inquiry. The sale for pears to-day was weak, but there was a good demand for hothouse) grapes. Rates for guavas have eased owing to the appearance on the market of larger quantities. Prices were: — Fruit. | Apples: Delicious, 4/6 to 6/ case; llallarat, 3/10 to 6/6; Dougherty, 3/ to 4/9; Granny Smith. 3/6 to 8/; Jonathan, 6/ to 7/; Stunner, 4/ to 7/6. Pears: Keiffers. 5/6 to 7/ case: Winter Nelis, 8/ to 10/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, ex. choice. 1/ to 1/2 lb; others, 8d to lid. Tree tomatoes: New Black, 0/ to 8/ ease; Yellow, 5/ to 7/; No. 2. 4/6 to 5/. Oranges: Cook Islands, Mauke, 21/6 to 27/9; Mariralade. choice, 7/ to 8/; others, small, 4/ to o/. N.Z. Grapefruit: 9/ to 12/ case; Australian, 20/9. Lemons: 6/6 to 15/6 three-quarter bushel case, according to grade and count. Bananas: 22/ case. Grapes; Hothouse, Coleman, ex. choice, 2/3 to 2/7 lb: Few specials, lip to 2/11; others. 1/ to 2/ lb. Cape gooseberries: 7d lb. Passion fruit: Choice Col, 12/, 14/ case; others, 6/ to 10/; No. 2, 2/6 to 3/. Gnavas: 4/ to 6/ case. Vegetables. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was rnedium, and the demand was fair for most lines. * Prices paid remained unaltered. Selling rates were as follows:—Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime. 5/ to 7/ each; not prime, 3/ to 4/; light breeds, prime, 3/ to 5/; not prime, 2/ to 3/. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 4/ to 5/; light breeds, 2/6 to 4/. Drakes: Young, prime, 3/ to 3/6; smaller, 2/ to 3/. Ducks: Young, 3/ to 4/; old, 2/ to 3/. Butter, Eggs, Flowers. Eggs.—Hen: First grade, 2/7% doz; B, 2/3\ts: C, 1/11%. Duck; First grade, 2/3 1 /6; B, 2/1%; C. 1/11V4. Farmers' Butter.-—l/ 3to 1/4 lb. Cut Flowers.—A medium quantity of flowers came forward to-day and the demand was fair. Irises eased slightly in value, but, on the other hand, poppies advanced in price towards the close of the sale. A few freesias and anemones are coming forward and realising high prices.
