PRODUCING MORE FEED.
NEW PROPOSALS APPROVED. EXPLANATION BY MINISTERS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Provision of additional feed crops for the dairy, pig and meat industries of New i Zealand lias Been approved by the Govern- | ment and representatives of the primary producers. This was announced last night by the acting-Minister for Agriculture, the lion. F. Langstone. Stock feed crops capable of being produced in the Dominion fell into two categories, said the Minister. The first included crops which could be grown on individual farms anywhere in the Dominion, and the second, crops which could (be grown most economically or safely in restricted localities. Crops in the first category were hay, ensilage, green feed and roots. They would assist in the production of all dairy products, and most of the other products. The second category was of grain and pulse crops such as maize, barley, oats, peas, linseed and wheat, which were specially required for the production of bacon, eggs, butterfat and milk, and in the rearing of young stock. A number of methods to be adopted for producing additional crops were explained by Mr. Langstone. The cooperative use of implements of North Island grazing farms could be introduced. Another proposal was to adopt contract work, possibly with the assistance of the Public _Works Department machinery, and to utilise spare land where it was advantageously placed. Provision of suitable labour, seeds and fertilisers and living accommodation on farms were also proposed. One scheme is the utilisation of the Internal Marketing Department as a buying and distributing agent, so _ that any deficit might be | absorbed in that organisation instead of I introducing an unweUdly subsidy scheme,! said Mr. Langstone. j
