OBITUARY.

MRS. T. W. RATANA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WAXGAXUT, this day. The death occurred at Ratana of Mis. T. W. Ratana, widow of the late Mr. T. W. Ratana, the famous Maori "prophet" and faith-healer. Her husband died last September. Mr. H. T. Ratana, M.P., is a son. Born at Whenuakura, near Patea, on October 25, 1873, Mrs. Ratana's maiden name was Te Urumanao or Te Whaea ote Katoa Xgapaki, and she wae a daughter of Chief Xgapaki, of the Xgarauni tribe of South Taranaki Maoris. A life partner in all Ratana'e work of raising the Maori standard, Mrs. Ratana toured extensively with her husband, visiting all parts of Xew Zealand and also taking part in the world tour of 1924. The family consists of two sons and Ihree daughters. In addition to Mr. H. T. Katana, M.P.. Mr. Matthew Ratana is a son. and the daughters are Mrs. Tairoa and Mi*. Tamou, both of Katana. and Mrs. Raumati. of Waitara. llrr. Ratana is also survived by two brothers. Messrs. Tai and Tiaki Xgapaki. both of Patea.
