PROTEST MADE.
RURAL HOUSING ACT. At a meeting of the Ma secy and Birdwood Settlers' Association a resolution of protest was parried concerning the Rural Housing Act. It was considered unfair that the scheme should he the responsibility of the county councils and their ratepayers. The resolution concluded:—"Houses are wanted, but we feel that rural worker.* as ratepayers should not be singled out for treatment different from that extended to town workers ami we call upon our county council not to operate the scheme. , ' Under the Rural Housing Act of last session provision is made, for county councils to advance money to farmers (o enable them to provide dwellings for their own use or for worker* principally employed by then'. The advances made are a charge upon the land comprised in the farms concerned and ihe amount of tiny instalment may be recovered a< rnics arc recovered under the Rating Act.
