HOURS OF WORK.
DAIRY FACTORY EMPLOYEES. OVERTIME PAYMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) WELLIXGTOX, this day. The decision of Mr. J. A. Gilmour. S.M., regarding the application of the Xew Zealand dairy factory employees' award, against which an appeal was lodged by the workers, has been upheld by a majority decision of the Arbitration Court.
The workers claimed that workers in factories were entitled to overtime and additional holidays if they were require-.! 'o work seven days a week. The ninjii*trate found that the hours prescribed in the award were for a six-day week and that work on the seventh day was governed by the clause providing for a sevrudav week where lint more than two workers were employed. Consequently h held that t lie time worked on the seventh day should nut lie included in the weekly total for the purpose of arriving at the amount of overtime payable.
