FINE RESPONSE.
POPPY DAY APPEAL.
DEMAND IN THE SUBURBS. RETURNED SOLDIERS' EFFORT. The annual Poppy Day appeal made by the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association met with a tine response from the public to-day. The proceeds of the sales are largely devoted to the alleviation of distress among returned men and their families, and the appreciation of the object was evident in the eagerness with which tlie poppies were bought.
There were few people in the city this morning who did not wear a poppy. By noon it. was stated by the executive of the association that the >ales were well up to last, ypiir. In some of the suburban centres sales were ><> good that supplies had to be replenished during the day. while tlie workers in tile city area stated that the deiiand was excellent.
It i* hoped- that la.-t year's record of X - 22-J!t will 1.,- exceeded. Selling
arrangements are in the hands of a tc.mi of workers under the direction of th.- r.:ivoices, l)a\i>.
