WANGANUI CLUB.

CHANGE OF VENUE. EVENTS AT CLAUDELANDS. i i * —. PROBABLE FAVOURITES. Moet interest in racing in New Zealand to-morrow will be centred in the doings of trotting honses at Claudelands ana Wellington. At the former rendezvous, the Wanganui Club will hold its autumn meeting, -while the Wellington CluJb will brings ita Centennial fixture to a. conclusion.

ClaudeTands has been blessed with quite good fields, and when investors commence to weigh the chances of the 15 straightout trotters in the Haeremai Handicap they are sure to be faced with a quandary, borne of those engaged have no publ'ic form at all. but it must be said for Modest Maid. Uolden Journey. Master Wrack and Worthy Treasure that: they have at least promised well, while Barney Bingen, Gold Kip and Grand Triumph are capable of good efforts It would ap-peir that the elect may be Worthy Treasure, Modest Maid and Golden Journey.

Quite a number of the acceptors for tlie Pioneer Handicap have shown good form on the training tracks and failed to reproduce it when raced, tut that cannot be said ot Sir Echo and Xawton Junior in so far as their most recent starts are concerned. Still. several possibilities are concealed in this race, and it would not surprise in the least if there were a "turn-up." The public will probably prefer Sir Echo, Xawton Junior and Snowy Bingen.

Chance for Alcazar. Four of the five horses on the limit in the Moutoa Handicap are recent winners, the only one that does not come into that category being Bingen's Best, successful at Cambridge on January 13. Both Afcazar, an interesting third in the Turua Bracelet at Thames a couple of weeks ago, and Del Potts, to the fore last Saturday at Cambridge, impressed more than Ihi Ihi and Princess Linnett. while, further back in the handicap. Double Peter. Eadio Queen and Grand Dame appeal as improvers. Those most prominent in the final run may include Alcazar, Del Potts and Radio Queen.

The favourite in preliminary discussions for the Centennial Handicap is Belfast Jack, but it is reported from Waikato that M. Stewart will be behind the Taranakiowned Ace when the field goes i'o the barrier. However, that won't worry investors, as . Ace High now forma a bracket with Belfast Jack. Bronze Queen has excellent efforts this season to her credit, Transwell is probably better now than ever before, and Liirninate, Kewpie's Queen and Llanvabon are exceptionally fit and capable of effecting a surprise. Still, it is hard to get away from Bronze Queen, Tranewell and Belfast Jack bracket.

The latest efforts of Josedale Dictator have been encouraging, and despite the "boom" surrounding Worthy Belwin, plus the expected improvement of Great Guy. the consistency of Gold Kip, the distinct possibilities wrapped up in Barney Bingen —to say little of the glorious (!) uncertainty of racing—there will probably be * concensus of opinion in the Rutland Handicap for Josedale Dictator, Great Guy and Worthy Belwin.

Promising Novice.

Host of those engaged in the Pioneer Handicap also figure in the Petrie Handicap, but both Crucible and Franco are ■newcomers. Crucible showed great promise whfen ehe ran second to Bonniedene in the last Great Northern Derby, and Franco was going nicely in fourth, position at the end of a race at Cambridge on Saturday. A slight improvement on the part of. either of these novicee should have an effect on the division of the stake money. The favourites may foe Crucible, Franco and Sir Echo.

As there hae not been a saddle race in these ports for* a long time past, investors on the issue of the Major Kemp Memorial will be in eomewhat of a dilemma-, irat they will recall that Levity is a proved horse in the conditions; likewise- Handicapper; also that Tumble is right at the top of his form, while Chaise. Decoy Bird. Xarbadn. Radio Queen and Orleigh Mills have been 6howing no little promise during recent weeks. Summed up, the public mav prefer Tumble. Handieapper, Chaise-Radio Queen bracket.

And so the last race comes along with practically the same field as the Centennial, but there is no gainsaying the_ fact that this distance should suit Luminate, Belfast Jack bracket and Television bracket.

Betting will be on the win-end-pTace •ystem and the first race is timed to start at 11.45 a.m. A special train will leave Auckland at 7.5 a.m.; Newmarket. 7.13 a.m., being due to arrive at Claudelands at 10.43 a.m.
