BRIDGE RAILS REMOVED.
TO LET GUN CARRIAGES PASS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, this day. Mishaps to two of the gun tractors of the 27th Battery, sth Field Regiment, on the Rotorua-Te Puke highway resulted in considerable delay to the programme of a civic ' reception in Te Puke. It is understood that the units left the road, one being nearly overturned. At one point on the route the rails on a bridge had to be removed to allow the gun carriage to swing round to negotiate the sharp bend at the foot of the bridge. The battery, commanded by Major K. W. Fraser, wae welcomed by the Mayor of Te Puke, Mr. Dick Brown, and members of the borough council. In view of the delay the tactical exercises which were to have been leld around the district were cancelled.
