FINE CAREER IN SPORT.

RUGBY AND CRICKET REP.

An outstanding personality in sport in Auckland during the past few years, R. G. (Ron) Bush has enlisted for military service. He is to undengo medical examination to-day. Bush has done yeoman service for his province ar both Rugby and cricket, and gained higher honours at Rugby. He is among the selected few who have represented the North and South Islands.

An All Black full-back in 1931, he played in this position for the South Island that year, when he attended the Ottigo University. Although the career of Bush at Rugby was confined chiefly to full-4>ack, on occasions he played at centre threequarter. and he was in the running as a forward for the All Black team which toured England in 1930. This, except when he first? started his career at M«nnt Albert Grammar School, was the only occasion on which lie played in the vanguard.

While a pupil at the Mount Albert Grammar School, Bush captained both the senior fifteen and senior eleven. On leaving the secondary school he attended the Auckland University College, and represented die at Rug-by from 1928 to 1939, and at cricket froui 1928 to 1938. He played for the New Zealand University teams in 1929 and 1931 (in Australia), 1933, 1935 and 1937. In the lastnamed year the New Zealand University team toured Japan, and Bush waa vicecaptain of the side.

Bush _is a valued member of tlie Barbarians' learn, and was one of the leading stalwarts in the now well-known Rugbv film "Control of the Oval." ILj has represented Auckland ct cricket On several occasions, hi£ batting and bowling ability .being of no moan merit.

Ron will carry with him the best wishes of all sportfcmen throughout the Dominion.
