SHOT FROM SHORE.
LAUNCH STOPPED. OFFICIAL EXPLANATION. BOAT WAS TOWING LOG*. The launch -which had a shot fcej across its bows by a coastal defeat* •battery early yesterday morning became it failc-d to report to the examination ship when entering Rangitoto Channel, was engaged in towing logs. It was stated by Colonel X. W. McD Weir, officer commanding the Xort&enJ Military District, this morning, that the shot fired was a plug shell, -which is 4 solid missile with no fuse. The laimcj stopped immediately and remained at anchor in the channel until daylight.
