ADVISING AN OWNER.
The first horse Mr. Ralph Stewart, tie owner of the three-year-old champion Beau Yite. raced was Vinco. That horse cost him his reputation among the great racing fraternity, so he related at an evening given by the president of the Manawatu Racing Club, Mr. L. EL Collinson. Mr. Stewart accompanied Vinco to a Nelson meeting, and on arriving lie went into a barber's ah op for toilet. \\ hile waiting his turn in the chair, he had to overhear a conversation between the barber and a customer. The talk was all about the races, and the customer said he knew a good thing if the crook crowd that had him would let go, whispering Vinco. The barber replied lie knew that Vinco waa "the goods" too, but his owner was "a bad lot." Mr. Stewart's turn came in course. Near the finish, the barber asked him if he were going to the races. "Oh, yes," Mr Stewart replied, "I think I will if the weather improves. I have a home racing there." "What horse?" the barber asked. "Vinco," was the reply. Mr. Stewart left without having his hair parted.
