WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
Silveidale. —The president, Mrs. Sawer, welcomed members and visitors. After business had been dealt with, members handed in socks knitted for soldiers. Mrs. Sawer thanked those who had sent goods to the Red Cross shop, and soldiers' clubs. Mr. Jarret, poultry expert from the Department of Agriculture, gave an interesting lecture on poultry keeping. Mrs. Bielby was elected delegate to tho conference. Mrs. Blanc won the monthly flower competition. Avondale.—At the April meeting Mrs. Mealing presided. After the conference business was dealt with luncheon was served by the committee, when a presentation was made to Mrs. Mealing. The combined glee circle of the Avondale Women's Club and the institute rendered two pleasing items. Papier mache was demonstrated by Mrs. Shadbolt, and pine needle work-by Mrs. Marsden. The competition was won by Mrs. Brindlo, the pianists for the day being Mrs. Bollard and Mrs. Ritchie.
