HEALTH OF THE FEET.
A SUITABLE LAST. ACTION OF COUNCIL OF WOMEN. At a meeting of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women last night, a decision was made to invite three orthopaedic surgeons to co-operate with the council in giving advice as to the best type of last to be used in the manufacture of standard shoes for women. It was stated that a manufacturer had expressed his willingness to make a set of lasts to a design provided by the council, which would ensure the health of the feet. In connection with a request from the Auckland University College for two nominations for a committee to advance adult education for women, it was decided to nominate Miss E. priffin and Miss Essie Wilson. The council agreed that valuable work could be done throughout country districts by tutors sent from the university. It was decided that a letter be sent to the Minister of Finance, the Hon. Walter Nash, stating that a sub-com-mittee had been set .up by the council to investigate possible sites for the building of a new maternity hospital, and to invite him to send a list of sites which the Government might consider suitable. •Regarding the possibility of setting up open markets, it was agreed that, as the Food Value League was making similar investigations, the council should ask their co-operation with the sub-committee in approaching orchardists on the question of supplies. The president, Miss G. M. Hemus, was in the chair.
