"Although the amount involved was small, this was a particularly cheeky type of theft." said Senior Sergeant Henderson in the Whangarei Police Court to-day when Roy Hunt, of Mount Kden. Auckland, was tined £3. in default seven day-, for the theft of three bars of chocolate.

At <i p.m. on Wednesday accused went to the dining room and shop conducted by Mr?. M. A. Coe and ordered some ii.-h and chips. While waiting to be served he took three bars of chocolate from a shelf. Taxed with the theft, he at first denied having taken anv thing, but later produced one bar from his pocket, saying, "There's your chocolate." Hunt, it was stated, appeared to have raised his hand threateningly to one of the waitresses. He wae under the iniuence of drink at the time.

On the complaint of his wife, Hunt was charged under the Destitute Persons Act with habitual drunkenness, persistent cruelty and failure to maintain his wife and children. On this charge he was remanded in custodv to appear in Auckland on April lrt. * "'
