THIRD PERIOD APPLICATIONS.

Owing tn the uncertainty of the future procedure regarding import licenses on a no remission basin, the folloving telegram has to-day boon sent by tho Bureau of Importers to the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. Xash:—"We note that for the fourth period the (Sovernriieiit intends discontinuing issuing no remittance licenses. Several members have inquired respecting the position of applications for no remission import licenses for the third period, and we presume all such applications dealt with will receive your favourable consideration. Many of the applications wore entered two and three months ago. We respectfully suggest that applicants should not be penalised through the Department's delay in dealing with them." The bureau states that it is not clear whether licenses on a no remission basis will be discontinued immediately, or only for the fourth period.
