" COMMUNIST HUNT."
EX-SERVICEMEN'S CONCERN.
DEFENCE CORPS SUGGESTED.
(By Telegraph.—Prt»s Association.) DUXEDDf, this day. What might be described as a "Communist hunt"' was initiated by the lie-turned Soldiers' Association at a meeting attended by repreeeiitatives of local IkkHcs and political and sporting organisations. Suggestions for combating the Communist party's activities included the formation of a national defence corps, comprising returned soldiers equipped on a war footing and ready to march at 24 hours' notice.
Some favoured strict enforcement of the War Emergency Regulation* and tlie prevention of meetings ami the distribution of undesirable literature. From the trade unions came a suggestion that the influence of the small Communist sections in unionism could be overcome if saner members, who favoured constitutional action, were pen-Haded to take as keen an interest in union affairs as the Communists.
The question of combating the alleged menace was referred to the respective organisations represented.
