NEW BATTLE DRESS.

ISSUE TO TROOPS.

FORAGE CAPS TO REPLACE HAT.

The new battle dress to be. issued to all ranks in the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force was seen in the streets of the city last night for the first time. This new type of uniform attracted, considerable attention, for it is very different from the present' issue. The trousers are obviously very comfortable and the blouse, with its belt in matching material, has a soft buttoned collar, buttoned cuffs and large patch pockets. The most striking feature is the absence of brass buttons and the familiar khaki web belt. The only badge worn on the blouse is that showing rank.

District Headquarters of the Army Department elated this morning that a special cap, known ae a forage cap, is to be issued, for wear with the uniform. This cap, which will carry a badge, will replace the familiar peaked hat worn by New Zealand troops. The cap has not yet been issued. The battle dre-ss is being issued in the Dominion to men of the Third Echelon only, and it is being manufactured in various centres.
