OBSTRUCTION OF POLICE.

(By Telegraph.—Prees Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The appeal of Halford Graham Lyttle againet his sentence by a magistrate to three months' imprisonment with hard labour for obstructing the police at a pacifist meeting, was disallowed by Mr. Justice Johnston in the Supreme Court to-dav.

Mr. Justice Johnston said appellant was honest and courageous, but was ofctu*e to the feelings of others. He persisted in a course, which amounted to obstruction. His Honor had no doubt that appellant and members of the Christian Pacifist Society were intelligent enough to appreciate the law, but thev set themselves stubbornly against it The law was that the police should not allow public meetings if thev appreciated that a breach of the peace would result.
