NEW FIRE STATION.
LOAN BORROWING POWERS.
AUCKLAND CITY SCHEME.
To enable the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board to raise a loan of £125,000 for a new city fire station and living quartern, to be built on a site at the corner of Pitt Street and Grey's Avenue, the board's borrowing powers have been increased by "Gazette" notice to £225,000. Recently authority was given by the Local Government Loans Board for the Fire Board to borrow on a 25-year term, but as the market is regarded as insufficiently attractive for long-term issues the I oans Board has been asked to reduce the term to 15 years. Plans for the station buildings are now nearly completed, and will be submitted to the Public Works Department for approval, after which they will require the approval of the Auckland City Council Iwfore a permit is granted for the work. It is not expected that a contract will be let until the latter part of the vear.
