LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENTS. TWO MEN" BEFORE COURT. Two men, who were, involved in a level -crossing accident at Te Papapain February la*t, were lined by Mr. F. H. Lcvien, S.M.. in the Onchunga Police Court to-day for crossing a railway line when not clear. Both pleaded guilty. Haydon Bettany, who had ridden a motor cycle, stated that on February 15, while approaching the crossing in Captain Springs Road, be heard no whistle and saw no train until it was upon him. His machine was struck by the cow-catcher and he was taken to hospital. He complained that his visibility was obscured by a tall hedge. He was fined 20/ and cost*. Kenneth Walter Johns pleaded guilty to driving a truck across the railway line in Church Street, To Papapa, on February 23. He stated' that, bearing no whistle of an approaching train, he concluded the line was clear, but seeing the train he accelerated and tlie truck was overturned and wrecked. He was fined 30/ and costs.
