DIPHTHERIA AND T.B. EFFORTS IX AUSTRALIA. Recent Australian advance* in preventive medicine were commented upon by Dr. F. J. Gwynm*. of Auckland, upon his return by the -Monterey tliis morning from Sydney. He de.*eril»d the energetic efforts being made in Xew South Wales to safeguard children a«ruilist diphtheria and also the war against tuberculosis. Over 2.-|O,OOO children hail been made immune from diphtheria as a result of the establishment of clinics by local governing authorities, said Dr. Gwynne. Treatment was on a purely voluntary basis. and the response" had hec'n splendid. It had l>ceii officially stated that when another KtIURM children were treated the diphtheria menace would disappear.
In the intensive campaign Ving waged against both animal and luimnn tuberculosis, lie continued, the people were being educated in the need of early treatment and wore encouraged to realise that those affected were still able to perform useful work as economic member.-! of the community.
