GREAT BATTLE.

WON BY INCHES. CLASSFORM SECOND. BALDRIC'S HURDLES. VICTORIA TO MARSHALL HALL Tn fine weather and in the presence of a large ..ttendnnce. the Auckland Racing Club's autumn meeting \va* coneluded at Kllerslie today. The course was in excellent order. Backers did not start ofT too well Plain to-day when the first race, the Nelson Handicap, was won by Llandaff, Mr. A. D. Potter's three-year-old chestnut colt, who was making his second appearance in a race. The each-way favourite. Tea (long, prominent all the way, was second ami ffnnto third. (Icorge Cameron scored his fourth win at the meeting when he steered Marshall Mall home in the Victoria Handicap from the little-fancied Mysito and Beau Leon. This made Marshall Hull's second win on end. Wins at Second Start. Llandaff, who was making only his second appearance in a race, won the Nelson Handicap practieclly from end to end and returned a good double-figure dividend. His previous start was in the Royal Stakes on January 2 last at Ellerslie, when he showed promise by being one of the leaders into the straight. He races in the same colours as Kiltowyn, a good performer a few seasons ago. Tea Gong ran right up to his effort of Saturday, when he won the Eden Handicap, by finshing a good second. He was giving Llandaff a good start at the home turn and just failed to get him. Hitnto was always prominent arid stayed on to get third. When they settled down along the back Llandaff • was in charge from Valerian, and they led across the top from Joan Peel; ; Hunto, Runanga, Beeswing, Whenua, Tea tiong, Clansman and Odtaa. Llandaff held his position into the straight from Valerian, Hunto, Joan Peel, Whenua, Odtaa and Tea Gong. Tea Gong then came through and just failed to reach Llandaff by a neck, with Hunto three-quarters of a length away third. Then followed Wildore, Milanion, Odtaa, Foxtoofl, Maiprq, Beeswing, Raepata and Joan, Peel. - ' Second Win on End.' Marshall Hair made it two on end when he, wou , the Victoria Handicap. He was- draw* about the middle of the field at the .Barrier and, getting away smartly, he was one of the leaders all the way, holding on to score nicely at the finish from Mysito. The latter was always we'll placed and hung on well at the end, while Beau Leon ran his best race for some time when he filled third position. He was right up fifth in the Champagne Stakes and evidently was improved' by that race. Lou Rosa, the favourite, showed out early but finished well back. Phaleron got squeezed back at the start and was never afterwards promiLou Rosa, Volifox, Happicoat and Grandora were the first to become prominent, but Oragon and Marshall Hall soon tan to the front and led past the five-furlong post from Grandora, Mysito, Beaucoup, Miss Jose, Happicoat and Surpai. Oragon and Marshall Hall were together when they came into line, the pair being followed by Mysito, Grandora, Beaucoup, Surpai, Night Pilot and Beau Leon. Marshall Hall then drew out and, stalling off Mysito, won by a neck, with Beau Leon, who finished well, only a head, away; Grandora was fourth and then came Surpai, Oragon, Volifox, Night Pilot, Happicoat and Lou Rosa. „ . „ . • Coupled Horse Scores. Baldric ;put up his best performance over fences when, he accounted for the St. Helier's Huwlies. He was a long way back for most of the way, hut he outstayed the opposition at the finish, though he ran about over the last furlong. Aintree also made a good-show-ing for a novice, while Race Boy put up his best effort—he was placed in the Taranaki district earlier in the season. All Irish, who has proved himself a good jumper, ran a good Tace to get fourth, considering it was his first start this season. Melvanui looked a likely proposition till he hit the last hurdle. Midland,' the favourite, never flattered \ his supporters after going three furlongs. Passing the stand Te Ronga was in charge from Rajanya, All Irish, Race Boy, Right Royal, Melvanui and Aintree. .Going along the hack Te Ronga was followed by All Irish, "Melvanui, Rajanya, Right Royal, Aintree and Race Boy, with Baldric a good deal further back. Melvanui led into the straight from Aintree, Te Ronga, All. Irish, Right Royal, Race Boy and Baldric. Once over the last fence Baldric took charge and went on to win by a length and a quarter from Aintree, who beat Race Boy by a length. All Irish was fourth, and then came Right Royal, Melvanui, Te Ronga and Midland. Yogi Gets There. After his dual success at Te Aroha and his second in the Autumn Handicap at Trentham Yogi was made a verv strong favourite for the. H. O. Nolan Handicap. He was about the middle of the field for most of the way, but moved up nt the turn for home and after a great battle with Classform got the decision by inches. The latter has proved herself one of the best three year-old fillips in Xew Zealand by her second in the New Zealand Oaks at Riccarton and also in the Oreat Northern Oaks on Saturday, while in between those races she sandwiched the Rangi- ( tikei Cup. Mintlaw was a long way back in the early stages and finished on to get third. Gamos was in the picture for most of the way but weakened over the last bit. Rarotonga, Gamos and Classform wefe first to show out and going past the stands Gamos was in charge from Raro-

tonga and Beaupartir, who were on tonus. Classform. Koyal Appellant., Yogi, Mintlaw, Uolden Sheila and Kena. (Join™ ahuig the back (iamos was headed by Rarotonga, Classform, Beaupartir. Koyal Appellant, Yogi, Mintlaw, Kena and (lolden Sheila. There was no alteration across the top and Cainos led into the straight from Yogi. Classform. Mintlaw and Beaupartir.
