CRICKET COLTS.

EDEN PARK MATCH. BOWLERS HAVE ADVANTAGE. WII.ES, SUTCLIFFE, SPEDDING ARE OUTSTANDING. Difficult conditions were experienced in the colts' cricket match between the Auekland and Taranaki teams. When play started the wicket contained a good deal of moisture and Auckland, after a slow exhibition of batting, were out for 89 runs. The Taranaki reply was 57. Auckland finished the day with 126 runs on for four wickets and were then in a fairly strong position. In R, Urry the visitors produced a good left-arm bowler with high action ami ability to both swing and turn, and V. K. Hill, a medium paced right-hander, afforded a sharp contrast. The Taranaki batting fell below expectations, several of the best batsmen on the side failed to get going, and there was no real opportunity of assessing their value. There were half a dozen lefthanders on the side. A. Wiles was in splendid form with the ball, and had the tine average of eight wickets for 3.1 runs. The start of the Auckland second innings was not auspicious, but B. Sutcliffe and I{. Johns greatly improved tho position. The Takapuna Grammar skipper played a fine forcing innings, and Johns drove with gre.'t power on the off. They were still together at the end of ihe day. The visitors showed up well in the field with clean stopping and sharp returns. while everything that went to hand was held. The Taranaki captain, J. Spedding (a New Zealand badminton representative) showed skill and finish as a wicket keeper and caught four men. "Dick" Rowntree was greatly impressed by bin display. The

Auckland leader. W. X, Snedden, too. showed a splendid example in the field, taking two tine catches. Scores:— AUCKLAND. First innings 89 Second Innings. W. R. Rowntree, c Duncan, b Antrldge 28 J.
