TROTTING TRACKS.

NOTES AND COMMENTS. FUTURITY STAKES PENALTIES. The adoption of a scale of penalties in connection with the Ken- Zealand Futurity Stakes is an inducement to many owners of three-year-olds placed in classic events to try conclusions again with successful horses of their age this season. The Ailiburton Trotting Club, sponsors 01 the Xew Zealand Futurity Stakes of £1100, has decided that the winner of one classic race for two-year-olds or three-year-olds will be penalised 12 yards, the winner of two classic races will begin from 24 yards behind, and the winner of three or more classic races will stnrt from 30 yards behind. But for the scale of penalties attached to the lace, Gallant Chief appeared "to have a mortgage on the stakes, but, as he has won two classic races, the Wellington Stakes and the Xcw Zealand Champion Stakes, he will have to concede most of his opponents 24 yards. For her win in the Now Zealand Derby Stakes Imperial Jade will be penalised 12 yards. The fact of Gallant Chief and Imperial Jade having to concede starts to such as Durability, Bcttv Hoop and Highland Scott will add much interest to the contest, which will be decided on April 6. APPEAL UPHELD. A recent exchange from Adelaide states that the appeal of the Victorian reinsman George Gath, who was recently disqualified for 12 months over the running of the Xew Zealand-bred gelding Takanini. has been upheld. Gath is well known in the Dominion, having previously brought across teams to compete at Addington. GRAND MOGUL SALE. Grand Mogul won the Grand Final of the Inter-Dominion Championship in the name and colours of the Dunedin sportsman Mr. G. J. Barton, though Perth reports indicate that the sale (at £200) to Mr. .1. Sykcs, of Fremantle. was finalised, but the necessary papers had not arrived from Christchurch and the transfer could not be put through by the "West Australian Association. It is stated, however, that Mr. Sykcs will receive all stake money earned by Grand Mogul. NOT IN STUD BOOK. Like many others who have won more or less distinction on the trotting track. Rev Chimes, the winner of the "Wyndham Juvenile Stakes, is not in the Stud Book. He may be entitled to inclusion and his absence may be due to carelessness on the part of breeders to name and register brood mares, states a Southern writer. Drastic action seems necessary in order to bring breeders in line in connection with young stock considered class enough to race in classic company. Key Chimes was got by Rev de Oro from Tuxedo Chimes, by' Cathedral Chimes from a King Tuxedo mare. CAMBRIDGE NOMINATIONS. Nominations for all events to be. decided at the Cambridge Trotting Clubs winter meeting, to be held on Saturday April 13, will close with Messrs. Blomfield and Company, Shortlaml Street, Auckland, or with the secretary, Mr. 1. H. Hampshire. Cambridge, at 5 p.m. on l-rc-day next. March 20. ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. ASCOT.- £1 0/- '
