Denied the wide view of the «pectaole that thrilled the thousands who lined all the harbour viewpoints as tbe Achilles rounded North Head, they were early at the wharf gates. Subdued, exchanging greetings and hopes in lowvoiced conversation, they waited patiently, content to remark occasionally on an occasional aeroplane that swung into their vision, while all the rest of the city was getting "an oyeful" of the ,- big show" that Fate had thrust upon Auckland for its centennial year in exchange for tfoe historic pageants that had been planned.
