AT THE MARTS.

DESSERT APPLES FIRM. OVER SUPPLY OF TOMATOES. POTATOES AND ONIONS CHEAP. Dessert apples were in shorter supply at the City Markets this morning, and sold freely at recent rates, but for cooking varieties the sale was slow. Bon Chretien pears were rather short of the demand, and sold well. There was no demand for tomatoes on the green side. The supply of peaches was short, and increased prices were realised for case lines. Most lines of plums came in ripe to a demand which was falling off. Quinces were scarce, and blackberries and mushrooms were in shorter supply. Cabbage were in very heavy supply to-day, selling at lower prices. Peas and beans were also fairly plentiful, with prices slightly lower. Cauliflowers, which were in fair supply, advanced a little in price. There were large quantities of pumpkins and onions, and prices were unusually low. New season's kumaras were in good supply, and sold at high rates. Carrots were cheaper as a result of increased supplies, but parsnips realised good prices on a market which was short of supplies.
