EAST COAST CARGO.
NEW ARRANGEMENTS MADE. • It is hoped that as a result of arrangements made by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce with the Auckland Harbour Board and the Union Steam Ship Company, difficulties largely responsible for much of the congestion on Fridays of cargo intended for East Coast vessels will be overcome. In the past the congestion has often been so great that it has been necessary to postpone the sailing of vessels from Friday to Saturday. The arrangements now made are that East Coast cargo vessels to sail on Fridays will normally lie available to receive cargo on Wednesday, without Auckland manufacturers and other shippers incurring the risk of Harbour Board storage charges, which will be absorbed by the shipping company if loading is not possible before Friday. The success of the arrangement to prevent congestion now depends on snippers supplying cargo promptly.
