CHURCH'S TRIBUTE.
TO PRIME MINISTER. COURAGE IN ILLNESS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Sincere good wishes were extended by the Presbyterian General Assembly today to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and admiration was expressed at the courageous manner in which he had borne his illness. In extending a welcome to the deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, the Moderator, the Rt. Rev. Lawson Robinson, expressed regret that the Prime Minister was unable to attend. "Whatever might be the political feelings of the members of the Assembly," he said, "we feel keen sympathy for the Prime Minister in his illness. This feeling will be shared by Presbyterian people throughout NewZealand." Mr. Fraser said that Mr. Savage was deeply sorry that he was unable to be present. Only those who worked closo with him, Mr. Fraser said, could appreciate the work Mr. Savage was doing. Messages of goodwill and felicitation were exchanged between the Assembly and representatives of the Government, the city of Wellington and sister Churches in the city. Mr. Fraser represented the Government, and the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hfelop, the city. The Churches were represented by Archdeacon Rich (Anglican), Lieutenant-Colonel Burtin (Salvation Armyjr, the Rev. B. C. Stafford (Church of Christ), the Rev. L. A. North (Baptist), the Rev. H. W. Newell (Congregational) and the Rev. L. B. Goswell (Methodist).
Prior to Mr. Eraser's departure a resolution was passed recording the Assembly's appreciation of the Government's efforts to improve the social conditions of the people, and assuring the authorities of their goodwill and support in their work in the people's good.
