PRACTICAL JOKE.
ENDED IN TRAGEDY. WAR PENSIONERS DEATH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. At an inquest to-day concerning the death of Thomas Egan. aged .50. a war pensioner, a verdict that death was due to meningitis following an injury to the eye, was returned. The injury was received when a dispute took place between deceased and Daniel John Melntyre. Detective Hogan, who conducted the inquest, said Melntyre was charged with manslaughter, but the grand jurv had returned a "ho hill." Evidence was that trouble arose from a practical joke interrupted bv Melntyre when he found Egan making a dunmiy to put in Mclntyrcs bed. Melntyre pushed Egan away, later hitting him in the face.
