For the first four months of the war Xew Zealand's expenditure totalled £2,459,398, according to the War Expenses Account, which does not cover the period of Expeditionary Force disbursements overseas. The largest item is £1,311,239 for land and -buiklinps for aerodrome* and fortifications, while £293,264 has been exponded on stores, and £375,228 on pay allowances, the Army proportion being £208,5<Vi. The main items of receipts are Treasury- bills £300,000, transfers from Consolidated Fund notes £2.200,000, and special war taxation £277,724.^ The largest estimated receipts will be from income tax surcharge, which is not yet payable, the only substantial item so far being customs duties £150,500.
