TIMBER SHARES SOUGHT. FIRM DEMAND FOR BANKS. Timber_ shares and New Zealand industrial and trading issues were most in demand on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning, buyers raising their offers at numerous points. Kauris, LeylandO'Brien's and National Timbers all had inquiries at improved levels, and in the miscellaneous the stronger tone was reflected by New Zealand Farmers' Fertilisers, Claude Neons (N.Z.), and Consolidated Bricks. Exceptions to the upward movement were chiefly in the Australian group, which remained fairly steady. Taranaki Oils, however, gained a penny in sales at 7/2. and later buyers moved up to 7/6. Mount Lyells were unsteady, with reduced limits, but Mount Morgans still had buyers at 11/ at the first call. Banks appeared fractionally stronger, and insurances unchanged. Auckland Gas were transferred a penny lower at noon, but generally the market showed little change. Limits were revised for Taranaki Oils. SALES COMPLETED. AT THE 3.1 B P.M.
