N.Z. PILOT'S VICTORY.
Successful Fight With Two Enemy 'Planes. DETAILS REVEALED. British Offlciul Wlrrteeg. RUOBY, January 21. Details aro now revealed of the action for which Pilot-Officer G. W. F. Carey, of Christchurcb, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He piloted one of three aeroplanes patrolling tho North Sen this month, when lie engaged two enemy aeroplanes. Pilpt-Oflicer Carey opened fire at very close range and succeeded in driving the first enemy aircraft into tho sea in flames. He then engaged the second enemy aircraft until he had exhausted the ammunition of his front gun. By skilful manoeuvring, he enabled his gunner, Leading-Aircraftsman R. A. Crumpton, to tiring the rear gun into action at point-blank range. Consider-, able damage was inflicted on the enemy. The skill and coolness displayed by Cr.umpton in the manipulation of his gun played a, large part in bringing tho combat to a successful conclusion, and ho ha a been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal,
