QUAY STREET MEETINGS.
STREET SPEAKER FINEiD, On two charges of holding public gatherings in Quay Street within 50 yards of the intersection of Queen Street, and on a charge of distributing handbills, Michael Young, who spoke tinder j the auspices of the New Zealand Pence J Pledge Union, appeared in the Police 1 Court on summons before Mr. J. > Moiling, S.M., yesterday . afternoon. * 1 ouiig, who pleaded not guilty to fill J charges, submitted that the City Council had no authority to iesno permits to l * hold meetings. He was fined £1 and 10/ costs on the first charge and was convicted and ordered to pay costs on tho oilier counts.
