The Wanganui 'boat, the Aloha, won the Cornwell Cup this morning when it defeated Auckland in the eighth race. Prior to this race Wanganui and Auckland were equal with two wins each.
Wanganui led all the way, and finished lm .■>■!#; ahead of Auckland. The winning boat was sailed by the twin Armit brothers.
Within three minutes of the start Wanganui drew clear and led throughout. Although Auckland, Tauranjra and Lyttelton all drew up on the leader during the race, the iseue wais not in doubt the Armitts sailing , a clever and «safe race. They kept in a windward position on .Loth beats lip Evans Bay.
The Xew Zealand Jellic-oe eless championship wae sailed to-day over a 12mile course. The race was won by the Christchurch Yacht Club's 14-footer Prize., which led all the way after gaining a big advantage at the start. The Prize wae 4in 40s in the lead at the weather mark from Otago's Sanders Cup representative Evelyn, and 25s ahead of Caress.
On the run to the CoromarJe.l buoy Evelyn and. Carets pained a. little on the Prize. On the beat hack to the finieh, the Caress passed, the Evelyn near the line.
The elapsed times were: Prize (winner), 2h 24m ale; Caress, 2h 30m 13s; Evelyn, 2h 30m 28s, followed by Val, Anival, Vorena, Kitty, Ariki, Louie ; Ire.ne and. Vanguard.
The Dominion Idle Along championship was won by the Tauranga boat Vampire beating the Evans Bay Club's Damfinu by 19 seconds. Elaine (Royal Port Nicholson) was third, followed by Courier and Hamilton.
