STOLE OIL DRUMS.
PROBATION GRANTED. i Charged with the theft of seven oil drums, valued at £7 10/, Kenneth Edward James McQuoid, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day before Mr. J. Morling, S.M. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said the accused had taken the empty oil drums from a section and sold them to a dealer. The drums belonged to the firm employing accused. "Although he got 16/ from the dealer, I don't think the dealer deserves any consideration at all, if restitution is to be made," said Mr. McHugh. "On drums not recovered £4 10/ is owing." After hearing a strong plea for probation, made by Mr. 1. Wilson for the accused, and discussing the case with the probation officer, the magistrate said that notwithstanding a prior offence by accused 12 years ago he would be admitted to probation for 12 months and ordered to make restitution to the amount of £4 10/.
