THAT ECHELON
Ever since participating iu echelon drill at one of the large camps iu France during the last war my idea of echelon has been that it is a clever military formation which must have been of considerable value to infantry in the when countering flank attacks delivered by mounted ini'ii. echelon formation, a body of troop* can mow in general alignment ami semi-mass order, the companies or units of same keeping alternate or staggered positions with siiHicient space every way between. With a minimum of orders and time a separate and general wheeling movement can l' e effected, in respect of uiiy suddenly threatened flunk. DINK.
