OBITUARY.

MR. J. E. DICKXTTS.

After a long career in the cable service, Mr. John Edward Dieke.tts has died at his home in Parncll. Born in London, lie entered the employment of the Direct United States Cable Company and was <=ent, as a young man, to the company's Xova Scotia oflice. In 1902 he entered tlie service of the Pacific Cable Board, and was appointed branch in turn at Fannin? Island, Suva and Norfolk Island, where for a short period he held the post of deputy administrator. lie was later appointed to Auckland, whc.re he held the position of New Zealand superintendent for the board until his retirement at the age of CO about 14 years ago. Air. Dirkctts was associated with the Auckland and KemucJa Bowling Clubs, and was a well-known figure on tlift greens. He was a prominent member of the Masonic craft, and an enthusiastic, Kugbv football supporter. He is survived bv his second wife.
