MOTOR CYCLE NOTES.
TOURIST TROPHY RACE.
That interest in the New Zealand Tourist Trophy race is widespread is shown by the fact that about 4000 people from all parts of the Dominion gathered at Ostend to witness the event. The riders as they started were: — 1. —J. Hunt, on a 350 Velocette, completed 19 laps, fastest lap 7.17, retired with clutch trouble. 2.— S. Winterburn, 500 Rudge, four laps, fastest 7.35, retired severely stung by bees. 3. —W. Grey, 500 Rudge, 25 laps, fastest 6.35. won race, taking T.T. Cup and Wakefield Castrol Cup, and gold medal for best lap of day. 4. —D. Rose, 500 B.S.A. Gold Star, 22 laps, fastest 7.0, lost engine sprocket when lying an easy third. 5. —H. M. Hallani, 500 J.A.P., 25 laps, fastest 6.47, second in race, winning Jack Stewart T.T. Trophy. O.—R. E. Clarkson, 350 Velocette, 23 laps, fastest 7.23, delayed by carburettor trouble and still sliaky from heavy fall in practice run two days before. 7. —H. Grey, 500 Norton, 25 laps, fastest 7.29, rode a very steady race. B.—J. R. Phillips, 350 Velocette, 25 laps, fastest 7.11, won handicap event. 9.—Lloyd Dixon, 500 Levis, 6 laps, fastest 6.39, when 12s behind leader was blinded by cloud of stones and dust, and hit bank, breaking two toes. 10. —C. Buchanan, 500 Levis, 25 laps, fastest 7.0, third in race, lost back brake early in race, and, considering this loss, gave a great performance. 11-— G. Stewart, 500 Rudge, 25 laps, fastest 7.3. third in handicap. 12.—M. Godfrey, 500 Excelsior, 12 laps, fastest 7.21, retired with gearbox trouble. 14.—L. V. Perry, 500 Velocette, 11 laps, fastest 6.36, ■ last year's winner, retired with engine trouble while holding comfortable lead. 15. —V. A. Dixon, 500 Triumph Twin, 25 laps, fastest 7.13, second in handicap. 17.— R. Alexander, 500 Triumph Twin. 10 laps, fastest 6.42, forced to retire after several minor spills. 18.—C. Keefe, 250 Velocette, 9 laps, fastest 7.31, retired with engine trouble.
