All Average yield of about 30 bushels of wheat an. acre may be expected from the .crop in Canterbury this season, according to information given' by the fields superintendent of. the Department of Agriculture, Mr. Jl. McGiliivray. Jtr. MeGillivray, wild had just returned from a tour of the provim-e. said that this yield might be expected from crops lib had seen in every district from Korth Canterbury to AVainate. There were some poor crops, but there were some exceptionally good ohes ( especially limdiig those early sown on heavier "types of soil. Sortie spriligsowu crops looked rather pool 1 ) but ill "places good rain would assist them to gave a reasonable yield. In all districts the wheat was coming on very fast. South Canterbury drops seemed to be about as far advanced as those in North Canterbury. The amount of disease in this season's crops did riot seem to be great. . ; . . llr. ilcGillivray thought that the yield would he above the expectations of farmers. He had seen a few light crops, but-there were some 011 light land that' had been brought on prematurely arid tlierefol-e could not be expected to yield good quality grain.
