CONSTITUTIONAL PROGRESS
United Press Association.—Copyright,
(Roceived 0.30 a.m.) BOMBAY, January 11. The Viceroy, the Marquess of Linlithgow, in a.specch, appealed to the various parties to get together and reach some agreement which will facilitate the Government's dealing with the vital question of Indian constitutional progress. Lord Linlithgow said the Government was determined to see justice done.
While the partisan newspapers are professedly suspicious. Lend Linlithgow's speech is considered an indication that Britain intends to take up seriously the question of Dominion status for India.
The "Hindustan Standard" says the proposals are enlightening, and admit for the first time since the outbreak of the war that the Viceroy is earnestly attempting to descend to the level of ordinary mortals and speak their language.
"Advance" says that if Britain is sincere India will get Dominion status.
The "Amrita Bazar Patrika" savs it is worse than futile for Britain to change its policy and appeals to the parties to make up their differences.
