TARANAKI REGIMENT.
LIEUT.-COL. L. H. JARDINE,

NEW PLYMOUTH, this day.
Lieutenant-Colonel L. H. Jardine, D.5.0., M.C., has been appointed to the command of the Taranaki Regiment in succession to Major L. M. Fairbrother V.D.
Major Fairbrother was appointed to the command of the regiment in succession to Lieutenant-Colonel F. S. Varnham, M.C., E.D., when the latter departed for Trenthain on active se-rvice. He has now relinquished the command owing to his transfer to a teaching appointment in the South Island.
Lieutenant-Colonel Jardine served through the Great War, 1014-18. in Egypt, Oallipoli. France, and Belgium. He was awarded the 1914-1.") Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal, and distinctions awarded were the D.S.O. and bar and the M.C. He was mentioned in dispatches in the London Gazette. On active service he was second in command of the 2nd and 4th Battalions of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, N.Z.E.F., and later Commander of the 2nd Battalion of the eame brigade.
