TEA PARTY.
• SYDNEY VISITOR. ENGLISH SPEAKING UNION. In honour of Mrs. I. Wallace Turner, of Sydney, who is an official of the English Speaking Union, an afternoon tea party was given in the Milne and Choyee tearooms yesterday. In introducing the guest of honour, Mis. E. L. Burton spoke of the ideate and aims of the union, which was founded by Sir Evelyn Wrendh at the conclusion of the last war in the hope of ibringdng about a better understanding between the two great English-speaking nations and comft*a,ting prejudices. Hie branch in Sydney, said Mrs. Turner, was developing excellently, and not only did it provide a meeting place for etrangers from the United Stater;, but once a month the premises were placed at the disposal of Americans and Canadians resident in Sydney. At tlie conclusion of the speaker's address a discussion took place on the advteahilitv of forming a branch of tlie English Speaking Union in Auckland. Those present were:—Dr. Panda 1 Colver and Mists Enid Kelly (Sydney), Mrs. T. Mackv. Mis. G. T. Simpson. Mrs. Alan- Donald, Mrs. R. Ohamptaloup, Mrs. H. Morpeth, Mrs. W. H. Hemingway, Mrs. J. Maxwell, Miss Grenfell Spencer, Miss X. Montgomery, Miss S. Nolan, Misr Anita Webster and Miss A. Walker.
