United States Line Asks
Permission.
TRANSFER REFUSED.

WASHINGTON, December 26.
The United States Line has asked the Maritime Commission for permiesion to sell eight ships to a Norwegian corporation for service between New York and Britain. Their transfer to the Panama registry was refused.
A proposal to transfer ships to the Panama registry" early last month was objected to by the Secretary of State, Mr. Cordell Hull, because, he said, it would "impair the integrity of the Neutrality Act. A split developed in the Congress ranks between President Roosevelt and Mr. Hull on this question, and the Maritime Commission deferred its decision. •
