THE MAORI BATTALION.

WHANGAREI, thie day.

It is reported that in spite of representations to the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, and the military authorities, the majority of the Maori recruiting officers in the north have not received any payment for their work. Twelve men were appointed, and of these four were on loan from the Native : Department. It is understood that four other men are to be paid and four are not to receive any payment.
