RECORD ATTENDANCE.

SAIL AND ROWING EVENTS.

PERFECT WEATHER FOR BOTH

The Tauranga regatta was continued yesterday, weather conditions being suitable for the large programme of rowing races in which 5-3 crews competed, and the steady off-shore wind suiting the yachts 1 which started and finished off the Strand. There was a record attendance of visitors from East Coast towns, the Waikato and Auckland, The Mount ferry service running extra trips. The sailing and rowing events were started on time, and there were no mishaps. The 60ft yacht Ranger excited favourable comment as with all sail set she competed in the race for keel yachts, finishing well ahead of her competitors. The local class of 7-footens also created interest, two of the boys giving a displav of capsizing and righting in quick time off the wharf and were heartily applauded for their smartness. The Idle Along class of small sailing craft is popular at Tauranga, 12 starting in the two events for this class. The rowing events were handled by Messrs. C. C. Cairns, C. G. llerdman, G. Barker and S. H. Buchanan! The sailing events were under the direction of Messrs. T. iR. Sneddon, J. Denby, T. Connor, P. Carter, A. Stewart and W. A. Wilkinson. The president. Mr. G. G. Norris, presented the Tauranga Gold Cup won by Mr. \V. Burns' Ngahau in the ocean race, and the other prizes at the Civic Theatre laet evening, and thauked nil who had assisted to make the ri-garta so successful. .Mr. N orris pai<l a tribute to th« work of the lion, secretary, Mr. A, K. l'eppercorn. A and B Keelers. —The finish -waa; Ranger (scr), 2h 33m 555; Xgahuia (20m)' 2h 49m 16s; Xgahau (20m), 2h sOm 10s.' Result: Xgahuia 1, Xgaliau 2. Ranger 3. Maiden Eight-oar, open.—Waitemata 1 Hamilton 2, Auckland 3. Also started' Tauranga. Won by a length and a quarter' Hamilton being three lengths away. Senior Fours.— Auckland 1, Tauranga 2 Xgaruawahia 3. Also started : Waitemata' Won by two and a half lengths, with threequarters of a leiigth between second and third. Junior Eights.—Waitemata 1, West End 2, Taurauga 3. The only starters. Won by a canvas, Tauranga being 15 lengths back. Youths' Fours.—Auckland 1, St. Geor»e"s 2, Whakatane 3. Also started: Waitemata. Another great finish tsaw Auckland prevail by a canvas, Whakatane nuishins four lengths away. Open Eights.—Waiteniata 1, Auckland 2, lauranga 3. The only starters. Won by a length, with Tauranga eight lencths behind Auckland.
